Doubling Down

So it appears that the plague never was more dangerous than a severe flu, and that the Delta variety is more like a severe cold than a full blown influenza. Yet, politicians and media are in panic mode. Lockdowns are being put into effect, and the vaccine effort is being ramped up, especially towards young people who most definitely will not become severely ill if hit by this virus. In fact, the vaccine is known to increase the risk of serious illness and death. So why this insistence on pushing it so hard?

The answer to this is simple. A lot of people overstepped the boundary of accepted behaviour when they forced through lockdowns, mask mandates, vaccines and similar anti-social and anti-liberty measures. They know that there will be blowback for them if they admit that this was a mistake. If they don't keep the charade going, they will be out of a job, and possibly prosecuted and punished.

With everybody from politicians and journalists to corporate leaders and medical experts in this together, there's no other way than to continue what they have started, no matter how misguided everything is.

This is the danger of hierarchical structures. The top brass will always seek to include as many as possible in any conspiracy against the liberty of others, and then rely on the self interest of their co-conspirators to help cover up for any problems that may arise. With everybody sullied by their initial allegiance, they will double down on the mistake even if it means an even bigger mess in the future. To do otherwise would mean immediate trouble, both from their peers and from the people they misled. Far better then to extend and pretend in the hope that some miracle gets them off the hook.

This is what makes political leaders insist on carrying on with lost causes. They know that they are dead men walking and must therefore continue or see the end of their careers; possibly also the end to their liberty. Even their life may be in danger. There are countless examples of this, the most famous being the Nazis in Germany who knew that they had lost the war after the battle of Stalingrad. However, they were so deep in all sorts of criminal activities that there was no point in trying to negotiate a surrender. That would inevitably lead to their arrest and prosecution, so they doubled down on their propaganda and their war effort. Instead of setting a stop to their insanity, they ramped it up.

This appears to be the case once again. There's no sense in any of the measures pushed onto the public. Yet, instead of setting a stop to it, there's a ramp up in all aspects of their insanity. Unfortunately for us, this insanity doesn't come for free. There will be a lot of dead bodies at the end of this, and it's all due to a blind belief in hierarchical structures and the authorities that come with them.
