Venus Has No Moon

While geological activity on Earth is gradual and quite undramatic, with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions having mostly a fairly local effect, geological activity on Venus is wild and catastrophic, with huge eruptions and monstrous lava outflows.

The difference is striking, and it makes one wonder. Earth and Venus are the same size. Should their geology not be pretty much identical? If Earth is growing in an orderly and gradual manner, why isn't Venus' geology equally orderly and gradual?

The answer to this may be the fact that Earth has a relatively large moon while Venus has no moon at all. Our Moon is exerting tidal forces on the crust of our planet, thereby gently cracking it and releasing tensions and pressures built up inside. Venus on the other hand has no such massaging of its crust, so pressures build up until the crust rips violently apart.

The atmosphere of Venus appears darker and lined with shadows. The shadows trace the prevailing wind direction.
