Johnny Depp has just won his defamation case against Amber Heard. That's good news for Depp and bad news for his ex. However, the significance of this case goes deeper than this. It has served a lot of people well.
In one fell swoop, women are no longer to be trusted unconditionally. The #MeToo movement has received a blow from which it may never recover. That's not a bad thing. However, it's also very convenient.
Joe Biden has been accused of sexual harassment. It's a fact that has been hard to paper over. But now that we can once again dismiss disgruntled women as hysterics, there's less to fear from the rumors.
Another convenient aspect of the trial is how it's been distracting from the investigations into the identity of sex offenders associated with Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. There's hardly any mention of this investigation.
