The Speed of Gravity

When I started looking into the concept of fields, I threw out some thoughts related to their nature.

One thing I mentioned was the speed of transmission for a field. According to Wallace Thornhill, it should be close to instantaneous.

However, if gravity is a tension caused by low energy photons lining up in space, then it is hard to imagine any change to be propagated at a speed faster than light.

Another thought I had was that fields require more than one object to come into existence. However, a statically charged balloon would cause polarization of photons in its vicinity without the need for another object. Fields do not require two objects. All they require is some form of charge.
