Flu Season in Australia

Winter season is flu season. This fact alone tells us a lot about viruses and how they spread. Winter is a time of reduced physical activity. It's a time of reduced exposure to sunshine and fresh air. We sit inside in homes that are often badly ventilated and with little to no direct sunshine, and we get sick.

This in turn tells us why lockdowns have proven ineffective against the flu. The supposed benefits of social isolation was lost to the ill effects of inactivity and lack of outdoor activities. Additionally, we got the mental stress and economic stress that comes with totalitarian measures. The real cost of all of this will reveal itself as time rolls on, but we can already say with a great deal of confidence that we didn't gain much, if anything, from the draconian measured imposed on us.

It will also take time for the real effect of mass vaccination to become clear. We need to get through the next flu season before we know anything substantial about the vaccine's efficiency, and with this year's flu season now over, it looks like we're faced with a whole year of uncertainty. However, this is not the case. The efficiency of the vaccine will reveal itself over the coming months, because flu season is just about to start in Australia.

Anyone reluctant to take the vaccine without more proof of its efficiency need not wait a whole year. We need only to follow the news coming out of Australia to see if the vaccine does anything good. If they require a new lockdown, we'll know that the vaccine didn't do much good. If they get elevated mortality rates, we may even assume that the vaccine was counter productive.

As always, we'll need to read between the lines and pay attention to data rather than speculations. The narrative will always tilt towards conclusions in which the unvaccinated get the blame, even if the vaccinated get as sick or sicker than the unvaccinated. But they will never be able to hide completely the real goings on. Stories of plague ridden sportsmen and fully vaccinated people dropping dead is not something they will manage to hide. They may try, and they will blame the unvaccinated for sure, but the truth will be there for all to see. Come this fall, we'll have plenty of data from Australia.
