In a recent experiment, researches were able to produce light from a vacuum.
They claimed that this proves a prediction by quantum mechanics. But on closer inspection it is clear that all that has been demonstrated is that it is possible to produce light by vibrating an object vigorously.
The fact that a rapid deceleration of an object will produce photons of various wavelengths is hardly news. We all know that both light and heat can be produced by decelerating objects. Such deceleration is commonly known as a collision.
If energy is stored in matter as a widening of electron orbits, then vibrating an object at a rapid rate will cause electron orbits to jump back and forth. The consequence of this is the release of photons. There's no need for any additional magic.
The production of photons in a vacuum by the rapid vibration of an object can just as well be used as proof for the position that energy is stored in matter as a widening of electron orbits.
